Calculate time between two clock times

Enter a start and end time and the calculator measures the elapsed duration. If the end time is earlier than the start time, it is treated as occurring the following day, which makes overnight shifts and late-night timing straightforward.

Hours, minutes, seconds, and decimal hours

The same duration is shown in several formats so you can use the result for scheduling, payroll-time calculations, project tracking, or general time math without converting it again elsewhere.

Need payroll-specific calculations?

Worked example

10:45 PM to 1:15 AM

Because the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats 1:15 AM as the next day. The elapsed time is 2 hours 30 minutes.

2h 30m = 150 minutes = 2.5000 decimal hours

Common questions

Does the calculator handle overnight time?

Yes. When the end time is earlier than the start time, the end is treated as occurring the following day.

What if the start and end time are the same?

The result is zero elapsed time. The calculator does not assume that matching clock times mean a full 24 hours.

Can I subtract a break?

Yes. Enter break minutes and they are subtracted from the elapsed duration. The break must be shorter than or equal to the elapsed interval.
